Well, we're not going to sugarcoat it, but when we spoke to Chandra Wilson, it didn't sound good. Mostly because she was talking about taking care of him and "stroking" him (we assume his face) in the beginning of the season. "I really appreciate the way that we have taken care of him in the beginning of the season," Wilson tells us. "I think it's something that Grey's fans will really appreciate. We get to stroke him a lot in the beginning of our season." However, she assured us that someone who is gone from the show will not be forgotten. "It doesn't matter if the characters aren't there anymore. We just talk about him all the time!" she laughs. Let's hope they aren't using past tense when talking about McSteamy.

I don’t. But the promos that keep popping up have me worried. What also worries me? What Shonda Rhimes told me during our last chat. “I can’t say anything other than [Callie and Arizona’s arc] is interesting. There’s a big story this year in the Callie camp – but that’s all I’m going to say.” Now, please leave me so I may watch the latest promo on a loop in peace. Mere will deal in a way that’s a little surprising. And as for Derek, I think it’s safe to say that he’ll always be a doctor, but says Rhimes, he’ll deal with the question of “what kind of doctor are you when you can’t do the thing you’re greatest at any more?” “We’re going to see him head back, but there is that question for him,” she says. 34 days to go, people!

NATALIE: The good news is that the "year of romance" does apply to Meredith and Derek too. "They're OK because they survived the plane crash, so they're happy to be alive," Ellen Pompeo tells us. The bad news is that Derek's injury will lead to some trying times. "I don't know if his hand will ever fully be recovered. She'll do what you have to do as a partner; you have to support your partner." Plus: Have you seen Meredith as an attending?

Grey’s Anatomy | While there has been much talk about how Eric Dane’s imminent departure will affect the women (left) in Mark Sloan’s life – namely, daughter Sofia and baby momma Callie – his absence will trigger a shift among the gents, too. “Owen and Derek definitely start to lean on each other more,” Kevin McKidd shared with TVLine during Ausiello’s visit to the ABC drama’s set. “Owen needs a friend and so does Derek, so in the first few episodes they do check in with each other quite a bit. And it’s nice to see that friendship flourish.” Especially since Owen is still dealing with his fractured marriage, while Derek copes with a fractured hand. “Guys, being guys, are not great at talking all the time — they’re not like the ladies on the show, sitting around pouring out their feelings,” McKidd notes, “but [Owen and Derek] do have some moments that they share where they are both at in a very real way.”
